COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE MONTHLY
MEETING HELD ON 06/07/09

"Number is Power"
Officially Kicks Off July 7th 2009
The
economic and political contributions of millions of African immigrants
living in the United States is mostly underestimated due to lack of
single African immigrant identity and lack of accurate representation "The
Census Way".
"Number
is Power"
event is sponsored by PANED to promote the 2010 Census across African Diaspora
community. PANED will be engaging all African embassies and organizations in
this effort.
The 2010 Census is one year away and preparations are in full swing in
other immigrant group communities. Activities to lay the groundwork for the
nationwide effort to have accurate count of African Diaspora residing in the
United States must be made visible across the country. 2010 Census data inform
critical decisions from congressional representation to the allocation of more
than $300 billion annually in federal funds.
Census Bureau has submitted to Congress its proposed recovery plan to
create jobs, strengthen the economy and conduct a successful 2010 Census.
Under the proposal, the Census Bureau will invest $250 million in partnership
and outreach efforts to minority communities and hard-to-reach populations. A
successful census is critical for ensuring that African communities have
proper representation and the resources needed for health care, law
enforcement and education. Please don't let us lay back as usual and let this
opportunity to represent slip by us.
